It was still very dark when he was awoken. After a restless night of sleep attributed to the tossing and turning of his wife, he was forced awake when she declared she was most definitely in labor. Luke sat next to her, holding her hand, and staring out the gap in the tent flaps. Today was supposed to be his turn to lead the army, and now he would have to pass.

I don't know how to start this. I guess I'll just say it. Last week my wife was shot and killed. I met with the company psychiatrist this morning, and he suggested I keep a journal for the next few months. He thinks it'll help. I've never done journaling, but I'm willing to try it if it helps me heal from this. I don't know what I'm supposed to say though. You hear about people getting killed when you watch the news or read the paper, but it's not one of those things that seem real. It isn't something that really happens. At least not to you or anyone you know. But then it does. One second you're sleep
